Preston sits on one of the fastest stretches of railway in the country and somehow still feels distant from Manchester to the actors living there. It is not. The studio is closer to Preston than a lot of Preston is to itself in rush hour.
UCLan's performance courses put a steady stream of trained actors into the Lancashire scene each year, and the Charter Theatre and the regional touring circuit keep them working. What none of that produces is a piece of film an agent can watch cold.
Trains run frequently through the day, and advance singles booked ahead are cheap enough that the fare is a rounding error against the session. Come mid-morning, film, and be home before the evening.
